“an invitation to war against

what floats from my own mind

into this quiet place”

The battle we face in every blank page: to fight against self-doubt and find peace, to relax our grip on the pen and let the words flow.

Cynthia says this perfectly: exquisite. It's exquisite, Brian.

"I have looked beyond

the steel point of my pen"

These lines set a wonderful tone and image.

and to then conclude with

"and the rose

with the knowing

that it is found

in the steel point

of my pen."

Just wonderful. The cultivation of something that comes only from committing to the page.

'Strike now with a cry

ancient armies

that march within,

war that echoes'

The war of Art! '

A really fascinating image of the hand and the poem and the rose all in one morphing shape.

Evoking battle with writing itself? Evoking battle as the history of humanity? Evoking battle as a lark tripped down while focused on the pen tip? Very richly done!
